The City That Never Sleeps stays awake in part due to its enormous diversity of ethnicity, religion, age, and race. This collection offers a small sample of how that plays out in the course of one week of photographing. Guided in part by the counsel of world-famous photographer Peter Turnley, I adapted my past practice of unobtrusive shots through a long lens to a slower process of connecting with people with conversation, curiosity, and patience. The viewer can judge the extent to which these images may reflect a more calm look at how the subjects reveal something of themselves in a casual setting.
